The Virgin Post!
I didn’t really think for a nano-second last year at this time, that I would be sitting writing my first blog on my very own website. I really am a virgin (born again), so be gentle with me. I actually thought about my first blog last night when I went to bed…. and I had a fantastic plan of what I wanted to say. All of a sudden I thought to myself: “What if no-one is interested in what I have to say?”
In all honesty, is it a worry? Not in the slightest! I know it may take me a while to actually write anything worth commenting on, but I will give it my best stab. I got an email from a customer last night – (I must admit, George and Thea are officially, the salt of the earth. ) George had been reading my blog on the business website and said that it read like I was talking…. I write like I talk. I am guilty of not ‘humming’ and ‘haahing’ too much – not that I am an open your mouth and let your belly rumble sort of person, but I have been known to say things that have come back and slapped me in the face later on. More importantly (or should that be ‘dangerous’), I am not shy. That can also get me into trouble. (I know – some pal somewhere is reading the above and rolling on the floor laughing. )
I guess we all have to collect things, or do we? I have a wicked selection of t-shirts, my favourite being “I’m not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example.” I might just be tempted to have a whole category in here dedicated to daft t-shirts and quotes…
At the end of the day, it is going to be interesting watching my little website develop and see if I can actually raise a wee smile on peoples faces – enough to make them want to write in a comment!
I know – what a strange choice – Geekette. Well, I didn’t think of it, it just so happened that I got called it one evening and it kind of stuck. Thanks for that, you know who you are! I was a bit concerned… you know with having that label attached to you of being a ‘geek’. (It’s better than being a nerd though!?) I was made to feel a bitty better tonight, before I launched into my virgin post, I was made to read this:
“The term ‘geek’, once used to label a circus freak, has morphed in meaning over the years. What was once an unusual profession transferred into a word indicating social awkwardness. As time has gone on, the word has yet again morphed to indicate a new type of individual: someone who is obsessive over one (or more) particular subjects, whether it be science, photography, electronics, computers, media, or any other field. A geek is one who isn’t satisfied knowing only the surface facts, but instead has a visceral desire to learn everything possible about a particular subject.”
Goodness. That’s a relief. At least it is not going to paint a picture of national health specks and bucked teeth. I could never ever live that down, let alone purchase a website with a name like ‘Geekette’.
So, guess this has been my ‘hello-world’ post.
More to come, that is for sure! 🙂
Fantastic first start, and hopefully you can keep it going… just learn learn and learn, the more you look into it – the “geekettier”(?) you’ll become! – I wish you all the best….. superb…
